Highlight of the Day

June 26, 2013

Another example of a player looking to be aggressive and taking advantage of the opportunity. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/OW4DxSuEU5Q” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””] June 25, 2013
It doesn’t matter what defense you play, you still have to guard the ball. The ability to get defenses out of position by forcing 2 people to guard 1 person makes scoring so much easier.https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/869S7ai_B7o” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””] June 20, 2013

Didn’t draw this one up either.  There’s a re-screen ball screen on one side and a staggered screen on the other.  It’s not clean, it’s not perfect, but we didn’t teach this combination of actions.  Players just make it happen as they execute basic fundamental concepts that we drill every day.

The first attack dribble doesn’t draw help defense. However, it gets the defense enough out of position to create another driving opportunity on the kick out. This is a 5 out alignment, but we have 3 rebounders in the lane when the shot goes up because they followed their rules.

The player who attacks baseline at the end of this clip is not a good one on one player.  However, the opportunity to attack is created by her teammate\’s attack and the closeout situation.

Again it’s simple, but it’s how we play. If you guard the ball, we will do other things. But we’re going to make you guard us. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/XOBfrFTVf-I” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

May 29, 2013

We don’t score on this possession, but look at the variety of options that are created. This should have been an easy post feed and a layup.

May 28, 2013

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. This isn’t some fancy play with multiple screening actions. It shows how players who have the freedom to play with controlled aggressiveness can loosen up a defense for a 1 on 1 opportunity 10 feet from the rim.

[video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/v9Xo4Lqsmro” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

May 24, 2013

The Skip pass initiates the action. The cutter could have easily been open on her cut if she had worked a little harder to want the ball. This Draft Drive is a little unorthodox, but it works. The ball handler makes a really good 1 on 1 move to draw the help side defender. We work on skills. We teach them how to play.

May 23, 2013

Watch this clip twice. The first time watch the action of the ball. Then the second time watch the post player. A post player who is willing to work can make things really easy for an offense. May 22, 2013

Attacking defenses off the dribble multiple times is bound to break them down. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/WDNxt_DWgwQ” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

May 21, 2013

I know it’s 6 months later, but I was working on a master’s degree and coaching a basketball team.  Now that it’s the offseason and my degree is done, I’ve got more time to get highlights together.  So here’s one. We don’t score, but we possess the ball for almost a minute (with a 30 second shot clock) and get a decent look for a shooter at the end of the second possession. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/rQe7gFkgrnE” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 21, 2012

After a few days hiatus, here’s a decent possession of zone offense. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/tepsN6-taKY” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 17, 2012

Off ball action plus dribble penetration equals tough to defend.

November 16, 2012

A foul was called on the baseline drive, but it still created a wide-open scoring opportunity. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/bcDGJfg5pNc” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 15, 2012

This is a simple drive and kick against a zone. It\’s nothing special. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/q9e_jrZ1eEE” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 14, 2012

Here\’s a post player setting a high pin screen. It’s important that the player on the wing is patient on her fill.  She doesn’t have to fill because she\’s more than 1 pass away. This helps make this pin screen successful. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/YC8deZzh2C0″ text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 13, 2012

Nice little Laker Cut against a zone.[video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/KjKKNVD3UAk” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 12, 2012

Here we get a layup with multiple actions without ball reversal and without a Pass & Cut action. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/pDHLO499feg” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 11, 2012

This is a good example of why we have the player 1 pass away cut on the skip pass. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/BpjgxbmZZw8″ text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 10, 2012

Putting constant pressure on the rim makes defenses break down. Putting attack in your player’s minds constantly helps them break down defenses. The reaction wasn’t the quickest, but look how the post slide brought the defense away from the basket just enough. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/oswIiz1ROtU” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 9, 2012

This is a great clip that shows a variety of different actions.  None of this was planned or orchestrated.  It’s just players making plays.[video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/LMBUqnUgn3Y” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 8, 2012

There’s nothing like a good draft drive and a missed layup.  What probably goes unnoticed is the little down screen on the baseline for the driver before she gets the ball. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/nq-VOesW9nw” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 7, 2012

Not much to say here. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/asOfSh7kvq4″ text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 6, 2012

This overload created an isolation for the ball handler.  Pretty tough to guard someone when they have half of the court work with. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/jxbF0N_3F0E” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 5, 2012

This is why it’s so important to always be ready to attack.  A Read Line cut creates a driving lane as well. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/a2fsp5TIER4″ text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 4, 2012

Multiple attack dribbles in a possession are hard to guard, even for a sagging zone. Eventually, they\’re going to lose track of somebody. [video_popup url=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/FqscAvw65TY” text=”” title=”” auto=”” n=”” p=”” wrap=”” rv=”” w=”” h=”” co=”” dc=”” di=”” img=”” iv=””]

November 3, 2012

This clip is from our recent scrimmage.  Nice back screen by the post player.

GREAT PASS from the PG!  Talk about threading the needle. And a nice finish.  This was not a call.  This is a group of players making a play.
