Consistency is the key to success in anything, not just basketball.  But we love basketball so that’s what we like to talk about.  Basketball season is right around the corner.  A lot of people think that now is the time to get ready.  The truth is that your time to prepare for this upcoming season has come and gone.  Whether you’re trying to make the team, get more playing time, or be a more significant part of winning more games, if you haven’t put the work in over the last 6 months, you’ll get similar results to your previous season

We always say 6 months of crazy focus and hustle can change your life.  We’ve seen what 6 months of focused work can do.  You can go from unrecruitable to a scholarship.  You can go from JuCo to Division 1.  You can even have your own gym.  But it’s not 6 months of every once in a while.  It’s 6 months of obsessive, crazy, addictive work.  Most of you won’t work for one month, much less 6 of them, but that’s what it’s going to take for you to even have a chance.

You don’t have 6 months right now.  6 months from now, basketball season will be over for most middle school and high school athletes.  It will almost be over for most college athletes.  That’s when they are going to start preparing for next season.  If you haven’t been unbelievably consistent on a daily basis working on your game, starting now won’t make a difference for this year. If you start working now, you’re working to be better for next year.  That’s great.  You should do that if you really want what you say you want.

The worst thing you could do right now by trying to catch up is hurt yourself.  We see it way too often.  But the best thing you could do is make the decision to work today and then again tomorrow with the idea that 1 month isn’t enough time, but you do have a year to get ready for next season.  That’s two 6 month periods.  If 6 months can change your life, what could one year do?
